I finally gave in....

The activity calendar for Shiprock is full of card games and someone is always trying to talk me into joining in.  Up till now I have been able to decline gracefully by saying " I'm sorry I don't know that game", but not anymore.  Yesterday I learned how to play Hand and Foot.  I can't begin to explain it ( I barley have the basics down) but I spent all afternoon learning how to play it. And you know what, it was fun. I really enjoyed it. 

The question now is do I dare go over to the hall Thursday night to play.  I have heard that the ladies take their card games very seriously over there.   Guess I 'll see if I can get my nerve up by Thursday. 

We are having a "winter storm" day today, it will only be in the low 70's, sigh.

Fat Tuesday

Do you celebrate Fat Tuesday? We have ever since our first trip to New Orleans when we fell in love with the food, the people and the customs.  Our group was responsible for planning entertainment for the month of February so we planned a Fat Tuesday dinner that included all the standards.  We had gumbo, jambalaya, bread pudding and even king cakes.

Joyc,e here with her husband Hank was our chief cook and we used her recipes. The bread pudding was wickedly good with a whiskey sauce that really set it off and so easy, if you want the recipe just leave you email address and I will send it to you. 

Our next door neighbors Denny and Barb.

We named Denny the pimpenator1  and Jay pimpenator 2, what can I say, old people get silly some times.

We even had a parade, with convertibles and motorcycles and a Queen and King who threw out beads and candies.

It was a hoot! The food was great, the people were fun, the music was load, it was a good night.

Vegas ?

We went up to Spring Mountains to see the snow, it is a really beautiful area ( I know I am being redundant,it is all beautiful). It was Izzie's first chance to see snow and she dove right in. It was so funny to watch her, we got her in AZ two years ago and she has never been around snow.

Didn't think to bring a towel, it was all good till I remembered she had to get in the car with me.

Isn't this a lovely little village, it was at the very top of the mountains.

Vegas ????

This is called the Freemont Street Experience, it is old Vegas and it is amazing.  I think there is about 17 casinos under one roof and about 80   restaurants.  And the street people I can't even begin to explain,  they dress up in costumes and then ask you for money to take their pictures, some of the costumes oh my, I wouldn't dare show them on this blog my family reads.  But I am glad we went it was a unique experience.

Vegas ??

This is Red Rock Canyon, what a beautiful secret, it is only about 15 minutes from where we were staying.  I think I will let the pictures just speak for themselves. Isn't God's work amazing.

Just for fun I threw in a few pictures to show you how Izzie enjoyed the ride.

Vegas ???

Today we took it easy and didn't do much.  We had lunch at IN and OUT and then drove over to the Silverton , which is a new hotel and casino only five minutes away from us.  They have a beautiful fish tank and  in the afternoon you can watch them feed the sting rays and the sharks.  A half hour after that they put on a mermaid show.  

 When I was skyping with my sister this morning an her grandkids, my great niece Grace got very excited about the mermaids.  She kept saying she wanted to be here, so I promised her I would take pictures of the mermaids so she could see them, and I did.  A good Auntie always keeps her promise.  

After the water show we gambled a little, lost( or a better word would be donated) about $8 and then went home to rest.  

Last night I slipped on some water and fell, so today I have some huge bruises and sore spots. 

Tomorrow we are going for another really neat drive, I will try to take some good pictures.  Izzie should see snow for the first time.
