Sunday Praise

Jesus is my Savior, I shall not be moved;
In His love and favor, I shall not be moved,
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
Lord, I shall not be moved.

In my Christ abiding, I shall not be moved;
In His love I'm hiding, I shall not be moved,
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
Lord, I shall not be moved.

If I trust Him ever, I shall not be moved;
He will fail me never, I shall not be moved,
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
Lord, I shall not be moved.

On His word I'm feeding, I shall not be moved;
He's the One that's leading, I shall not be moved,
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
Lord, I shall not be moved.

Chorus
I shall not be, I shall not be moved;
I shall not be, I shall not be moved;
Just like a tree that's planted by the waters,
Lord, I shall not be moved.

So if it is Thursday we must be in Breaux Bridge, LA

Today we arrived in LA. Oh my word the humidity, I cannot stand it!!!! I need to go back to the desert. We had a nice short day which turned not so nice when we kept throwing a breaker. The park guys tried to say it was the coach, but master electrician Jay proved to them with his meters it was their stuff, so they finally replaced a main breaker and all was good. But while I was inside with Iz reading while we waited for J to figure it out, my Kindle fried, I mean totally fried. It is only three years old and I have only used it every single day for the last three years, so I don't know why it happened. But I do know I am freaking out! My kindle is my pain reliever my sleeping pill, my everything. We are going to have one FEDEX to Gulf Shores but that means I don't have it for three days, THREE DAYS, HOW CAN I LAST THREE DAYS!!!! J might had to sedate me.  I may have to find a book store tomorrow and at least buy a couple of paperbacks otherwise I just don't know if I can make it.  Tomorrow we will explore Breaux Bridge and maybe I'll get some pictures, especially if we have a mudbug or two.

Galveston Bay, Tx or what day is this?

We are doing an overnighter here in Galveston, leaving tomorrow for LA., where we will stay for three nights. (thank goodness)
When we were in San Antonio we went to the Alamo. I love seeing these places I have only read about in books. You can actually stand there and feel the history of the place come alive.

I have to say ( and just forgive me if I sound like a "grumpy old get off my lawn lady") there were a lot  and I mean a lot of teenagers there and I have never seen a more disrespectful group of kids in my life. These were scared grounds and if you didn't know that, there were signs everywhere saying they were sacred grounds, where many men shed their blood as they gave their lives and these kids were climbing over the walls and jumping off them and in the church pushing and shoving and screaming. But I don't blame the kids really I blame the adult who were in charge of them.  Why would you bring your kids to such a place if not to respectfully honor those who had died defending it?
And that is my sermon for today!

San Antionio River Walk

Yesterday we got into the KOA in San Antonio in time to go into town and explore the river walk. What a totally cool place, six miles of the river run through town and they have built a walk that goes around the whole area. It is full of restaurants, bars, hotels and shops. They have tour boats that travel up and down the whole thing. We walked a couple of miles of it. Today we visited a couple of the MIssions and the Alamo. More pictures to follow.
Tomorrow we leave for Galveston Bay, TX for an overnight. It is a short day so maybe I will have time for a post, if not on Saturday we will be in LA. for three nights and I will post then.
We are having a great time, travel has been going great and I love seeing all this history. And of course each day we are closer to home.

Fort Stockton, TX, hold on Toto we're coming....

We really had a different traveling day today.  We waited until after rush hour to go through El Paso, it was better, but it is still El Paso.  It is as close to the Mexico border as you can come without crossing the border. Juarez scares me, I know it shouldn't but I am being honest, it does. It always unnerves me when we come through border control and today they had three SUV's pulled over, emptying them out with lots of border patrol officers and dogs. I guess I watch and read to many mystery stories.

Then as we were getting about an hour or so from Fort Stockton, we noticed it was getting really hazy. We thought it was another dust storm, when had been going in and out of them all day. Then we saw a group of over 200 cars sitting out in the desert and lots of individuals, fire fighters, we knew we were coming up on one of the fires we had been hearing about on the news the last week. It is one thing to see it on the news, it is another to see it in person and we were in no way close. I cannot imagine the bravery of those firefighters. At first I was not going to take pictures, I don't like the idea of taking pictures of disasters. But after we passed, I thought there was a beauty of nature in it. Please don't think I am crazy but I thought I would share them with you.

The fire is burning in the Davis Mountains and unfortunately the wind is not going to let up any time soon. It is blowing at about 45 mph with gusts to 55 mph and over. They have it 75% contained now but it is re-flaring as I type this.

We are sitting on top of a hill where normally you would have a 7 mile view of the Glass and Davis Mountains and a valley of hay farms and pecan orchards, instead this is our view.

  I told Jay we are leaving the window shades up in case Dorothy and Toto blow by. Honestly it is just howling out there.  Jay is taking Iz out to the puppy park, I told him he better not take her leash off cause she would blow away for sure. I think the wind is supposed to let up a little tonight, I sure hope so. Tomorrow San Antonio.

A day in New Mexico

Do you remember the Battan Death March? Probably not unless you are a history buff or married to a military history buff like I am.  Today we stumbled on a Memorial to the Battan Death March in a new memorial park here. A large number of the survivors were from New Mexico and during the 2009 reunion they took impression of their foot prints for the memorial.

Think of the men whose footprints are here, what they suffered and remember it was for us, for all of us.

They have the names of every New Mexican citizen from this county who have served starting with the Spanish - American war. Different monuments memorialize different groups and individuals from WWI forward up to and including Afghanistan and Iraq.

I think it is quite impressive for a state memorial, what do you think?

We also went by one of the largest Pecan farms in New Mexico. Pecans are a big business in this state. I love the symmetrical look of the rows of trees. Did you know they flood them like rice fields? I didn't, until Jay was reading me his research last night. Yes, Jay always researches any place we stay for more than a day, to see if there is anything we can learn about the area and of course find good restaurants!

these have just been flooded

they are preparing these for flooding

so pretty
Tomorrow we are just doing a stop over in Fort Stockton, TX. Unless we get a really early start I doubt we will get to see the Fort, but Wednesday it's on to the Alamo!!

Homeward Bound

Traveling on Easter Sunday is something we will try to avoid in the future. When we got in last night I made  our traditional Easter dinner, just downsized a little. I had two ham steaks and baked sweet potatoes and green beans. Next year I plan on being home for Easter.

 We had a very good day, traveling wise. The traffic was light and with the exception of the wind no major difficulties. Jay was really tired, driving this big thing is intense enough but when you have major wind to combat you really have to concentrate.  It was entertaining to watch the "dust devils", little individual tornadoes come across the fields around us, not so entertaining when we had to drive through them.

It amazes me how quick we fall back into the travel mode after being stationary for six months.  I love Jay for setting up the trip the way he did, for every two days of travel we get a two or three day lay over. That's my ideal way to travel.  Tomorrow we start our way through Texas, I do not like Texas.  I think I might have mentioned that before!

Today we are going to visit Old Mesila  maybe do a little shopping, have a nice dinner and go to bed early. We lost one hour yesterday crossing times zones and will lose another in the next two stops. Then we should be on Illinois time, this is a gentler way to catch up.

Sunday Praise

Up from the grave He arose,
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes,
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
And He lives forever, with His saints to reign.
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!

This and That

I have finished my last knitting project for a while. I finished and shipped this blanket for my niece in PA's little guy.

I didn't have enough yellow yarn to make it quite big enough and couldn't find any so I followed a neighbors suggestion  to crochet a white border around it. It is very soft  and squishy.

One thing I miss when we leave here is in-n-out. I wish we had them back home. Have you ever been to one? Do you know about their secret menu? We have tried some of the choices, but some are just to strange.

We went to Wickenburg last week. It is a really neat truly western town. We are at our favorite restaurant
Anita's Cocina
doesn't that look yummy

We were lucky enough to be in the restaurant when the cowboys who were ending their Desert Caballeros trail ride passed by. Cowboys come from across the country to participate in this week long trail ride. There were close to a hundred cowboys who passed by our window.

We will be spending this week tying up loose ends, packing things away. We have booked all out stops for the ride home. I am anxious to get going. When someone is ill in our family I want to be home.  My brother will have his test today. I talked to him last night, he sounded so weak and scared. Please keep him in your thoughts. My hope is he will reach out and accept the comfort from God that is waiting for him.  My heart aches for his girls.

Dog Days of Spring???

Sunday we went to a dog play date with all of Izzies relatives. There were over 20 + dogs there, Izzie's sisters, brothers, Mom, Aunts, Uncles and cousins.  What a fun day. The breeder had one puppy left from the last litter, I so wanted to take it home with me. If I had more time before we have to take off I might try it. But I couldn't get every thing I would need in the short time we have left. There is always next years litter!!!!!
