Don't break your #1 rule.

Since the day J and I started traveling, so, so many years ago we had one rule and one rule only. That rule was "never, ever go to a tourist location between April and September"* . Yesterday, lulled into a false sense of security from our last few years of traveling we forgot the rule. It was a little gloomy so we decided to take a boat to Mackinak Island.

The boat ride was fun, but we sat inside because it was drizzling.

Beautiful old buildings, with horse drawn carriages everywhere. Unfortunately there were also
A gazzilion, million people. We forgot the number one rule, don't go to a tourist location until after school starts.

Iz enjoyed the ride back immensely.

*Disclaimer This rule does not imply in any way that we do not love children, we most certainly do, just not in quantities of a gazzilion, trillion, million!

  2. It's a good rule. I used to like working weekends so I could have some weekdays off to enjoy the lack of crowding. Now, I seldom do anything on a weekend as far as going out, and if I were to go on vacation it would definitely be on the "off" days.

  3. I have 3 children - and feel the same way! We homeschool so we can go in the "off season" to explore!
